OP here, just wanted to update that I did my first PIO shot tonight by myself. It really wasn't that bad, it hurts sitting a bit, but not a huge deal and didn't hurt actually injecting. So if anyone else is worried about it, I would recommend giving it a try

I gave myself my trigger shot in the butt (didn't have any PIO or any other IM shots). I also gave myself all of my subcutaneous shots and had noticed it was easier to do so while talking on the phone to a friend who knew I was doing IVF. So I reasoned I could do the IM trigger that way as well. I was super nervous, but it turned out to be easy and relatively painless. I did ice before and after...and massaged the shot in after as well.

You can definitely do this.

Another single mama here -- do ask if suppositories are a possibility; that's what I did during my IVF cycle.

But if not, you can do this! When I thought PIO was a possibility, I looked at videos on Youtube and this was one of the best:

Everything I've read suggests that PIO shots in the thigh are possible, but Bad News (very painful.)

I am single, too. When I tried TTC, CFA (Bethesda) offered to give me my PIO shots (free) if I dropped in to their office. I took them up on it, of course. Very helpful! Unfortunately, I never got pregnant, but I am now trying to adopt.

Just ask for the suppositories instead and save yourself a lot of pain + hassle/money.
