I think Dev Patel is a cool guy so I vote for Dev or Deven. Seems like Indian version of Kevin.

I work with tons of Indian men. I really haven't run across one name that I like or translates well. Except for a couple guys who have defaulted to calling themselves Matthew.

This is the other assholish comment. You must have the most limited definition of what names a boy can have. You hate ALL names you've ever heard on Indian men? I kind of think you don't get a vote on this then.

Some names I've heard recently are Yash, Shaan or Ishaan, Rayan (Ryan), Pavan, Kiran (know a lot of these), Dev, harsh (I think they thought it sounded a little bad ass)

The problem with Navin is that people will never know... Is it "Na-VEEn" or "NAH-vin" etc. I like the names Arjun, Arjaan, Roshan, Akash.

NO NO NO to Anil. Too close to Anal (actually to my eyes, it reads exactly the same, wrong or right).

Anonymous wrote:There's a Kiran in our daycare; I like the name. I like Navin, also. Other names I've heard that seemed pretty American-friendly:

Dev or Deven
Indra
Kumar
Ravi
Rohan
Vijay

Sadly Vijay isn't the nice neutral name it was when most of us were growing up. Not since vajayjay entered the lexicon.

I like I lot of the other suggested names. I'll add Rakesh.

Sad and funny point. Seriously worth considering.

I would avoid Anil, Ajay, Amir, etc. Americans will never get the pronunciation right. Your boy will go through life as "AJ, Ah-MEER," etc. Never mind the Anal point above.

When we went through this, I was surprised to find Neal and Jonathan on lists of Indian boys' names. Didn't seem that Indian to me, but they're out there.

Nikhil is popular.
