I'm a 50 year old married man with a couple kids. I'm not very accomplished and have many material wants and my dear wife knows we don't have money for stuff. Usually, our birthdays and anniversaries are very low key.

My wife utterly blew me away by hosting a surprise party with 50+ folks at our house. Great times, even though she didn't have it catered or anything (maybe $100 for beer, ice and snack food).

Big donation to a charity close to his heart and a tangible thing of some kind to represent it.

The PGA Tour Championship is coming up this coming weekend in Atlanta Georgia. Get him a plane tickets to Atlanta, a hotel room at the Marriott Atlanta Marquis or the Ritz-Carlton Atlanta, weekly Championship Club passes (includes daily passes plus access to the Championship club). I know it's somewhat of an experience gift, but something otherwise, it should fit your description. If he's really a gold enthusiast, why not spend several days watching the year end tournament of champions.

Is the Ritz downtown closer to the golf course? Otherwise I'd pick the Ritz Buckhead.

I just went with what Google Maps says. Checking again, the Ritz Carlton downtown is 5 miles from East Lake Golf Courses and the Ritz Buckhead is 8.2 miles. Looking at the map, there isn't a good route to the Ritz Buckhead without going back downtown and taking 85 north, therefore, you would be driving past the Ritz Carlton to get to the Ritz Buckhead.

OP here, I just went through this same exercise. Investigating some other pp ideas as well. Thanks!

Bottle of port from his birth year?

Small painting in a style he enjoys?

More cowbell? No, seriously, did this for a friend who has everything and never seen a guy so chuffed with a gift in my life. It was a good quality professional one and quite loud. The guy's wife still isn't speaking to me.

You, I like.
Good call on the port. Or the cowbell.
