It's absolutely impossible to stop high school kids from drinking in your house. The only way to do it is to literally monitor every single cup and glass that is being used. If you have a high school party I your house, kids are drinking.

I can't help but notice that certain people post here have zero tolerance for alcohol while others seem to have a great tolerance for drugs. Hope it's not the same person.

You'd be surprised at the parents who not only look the other way but still facilitate HS booze parties. Good for MoCo. I wish DC's MPD were as strict.

Do not serve someone else's kids alcohol. It's just that easy.

I like the idea of a fine but $5000 is way too much and the kids actually should need to be intoxicated to a typical level to get a fine. I have a 4 year old, so don't think I'm doing this myself. I just find it a bit over the top.

These people have been above it all for many years . I'm glad the police stepped in to stop the party and stop the kids from drunk driving away from the party. The fine is very small compared to other possible outcomes.

I'd never allow underage drinking in my house because of the liabilities BUT I remember what it was like to be in high school. If we weren't drinking at someone's house, we were out drinking on the streets or in seedy bars in bad parts of town that didn't check IDs. Or if we were going somewhere where we knew we could not drink, we'd binge beforehand. I'd much rather my kids drink in my home or in the home of their friends than being out driving around. And I'd much rather them be drinking than be experimenting with drugs. I think there should be strong enforcement for drinking and driving, however, I think this country has gone way too far in criminalizing underage drinking. If we allowed teens in America to drink, perhaps they'd learn to be responsible about it- like the teens in the rest of the world.

Had this happen in our neighborhood a couple years ago. Family fined $1K per kid caught, I think it was around $15K plus whatever the contributing to the delinquency, etc. fines were.

Citations were issued to many of the kids also. Probably as many as 30 because I believe the fine for the parents is $1000 per child.

The article posted above says the fine charged parents is now $5000 per kid. That's a pretty strong disincentive not to host a party where kids are drinking. So if the $30K figure is true, then the parents served only 6 kids. Good for Bethesda/CC. I've seen too many parents lose their own teens due to drunk driving. anyone know what the laws are for No. VA? I've never heard of any fine like this but would like to know.
