If we tried to knock on the door, she wouldn't hear because the music was so loud. And, seriously, when is it okay to say that you don't want to live next to [insert ethnic group]?!!

Fortunately, she moved out not long after. Unfortunately though, the landlord then picked another deadbeat tenant and inconsiderate neighbor who has completely trashed the house and badly neglects her pets (and probably her children too). We're working on persuading the landlord to sell. He'd make a fortune and can do better than constant deadbeat section 8 tenants.

I'm the pp in this case and I can tell you that I've also lived next to some obnoxious white people who play their music too loud and are inconsiderate of their neighbors. I would never say that means that I won't live next to white people again, or that I won't live next to black people again. I'd really prefer not to live next to obnoxious inconsiderate people though.

This is NOT UNIVERSAL. I'm AA and absolutely hate my AA neighbor who blasts rap music so loudly it rattles my floors. And she's offended that I'm "not down" or "not cool" and don't like it and prefer that my 4 yr old DC doesn't hear it. I actually often think the exact reverse of the person quoted above. I think:

"This is why I never wanted to live around blacks."

I know I'm not supposed to say it, it's some betrayal of my people or whatever, but there it is. Not all of us like that misogynist, profane banging stuff that passes for music these days.

You realize that you contradicted yourself.
If it is not universal, which is what you started out saying, then why do you think this is why you don't want to live next door to black people?
Wouldn't it be more accurate to say, "This is why I didn't want to live next door to people who play loud, obscene music"???

We lived in a row house in Shaw for 10 years with a next-door neighbor who had 5-6 (it rotated) Jack Russel Terriers that barked all day, and often night. He thought it was just fine, and retaliated for our complaints by turning his amps towards our house and turning the volume to 11 while he played guitar. Would call me names, loudly, through the wall! (Old houses, very little insulation.) He and his boyfriend also liked to smoke out back (no issue) and throw their butts over into our yard where our two small children played. Klassy.

Police couldn't have cared less, I believe neighbor was a sociopath (entire neighborhood feared "getting on his bad side").

Resolved when we joined the Foreign Service and moved. Told the new tenants they could be as loud as they wanted. Hopefully they're making his life a little harder. Either way, it's been blissful not living there anymore!

Hmmm, not sure if I'll get flamed for this and it's not really neighbor nightmare rather neighbor trying to
convert us to being Mormon makes me uncomfortable. She is very sweet but we have a religion we are comfortable with so every time something is suggested, I wonder if it's because she wants to hang out or if it has some anterior motive. There are only so many ways to say thank you for the info, I'm happy.

I sent my child to the same daycare attended by our neighbor. Our kids became friends, and my son asked for "play dates" with the neighbor's kid. For a while, this worked out nicely, and the kids played back and forth at each other's houses. Then the mother said it was "too much" or rather, she sent her poor husband over to tell me. He said that his wife was upset that my son called her son his "best friend." I was quite mystified as to why she was so upset -- cultural differences, perhaps? She's high brow English / Oxford educated and her husband is from another country as well. (My husband is British too, though not to the manor born).

Anyway, she started restricting play dates. I was to tell my son he couldn't ask to play with his "best friend." The boys used to go out in the front yards and YELL to talk to each other because she wouldn't let her son come over or vice versa.

At daycare, they played together all day.

The worst part was that my sons both kept asking why they couldn't have play dates.

Then she started freezing me out - wouldn't acknowledge or speak to me.

Finally, they moved to another part of Bethesda.

I was never so happy to see someone move. 14 years in this neighborhood and the only problem we've had.

I posted a few months ago about my neighbor who keeps a huge pile of yard debris I front of my house (other side of the street). Not a neighbor from hell but that pile annoys the h$ll out of me when I see it every day. That pile is there for weeks.

Do tell, OP. Are you trying to bait someone here? Are you the kind of insane neighbor that acts concerned then threatens, in the same breath?

We live in a tiny street. My neighbor and I both have children in the same school. On day she screamed at me, a long-drawn out thing, in the presence of other adults and children. Alleged topic: some minor mishap with PTA policy, for which I was not responsible and only indirectly involved. I remained calm and try to engage her in rational conversation, just because I do not want to burn bridges with a neighbor.

I must have been the only person involved that she actually knew, and she therefore saw fit to vent her ire on me. I also suspect she may be racist. But now it's pretty awkward seeing her nearly everyday!

Came on here to ask for advice and was slammed so bad I had to abandon the question.

Eventually, we got our HOA involved. I looked up the homeowner in FL and called him and asked him how he'd feel to live next door to drug dealers.

They were evicted eventually, by the HOA and us calling the management company nonstop.

Home is now rented to people so SNOTTY that they never even say hello to us. Love it! Fine by me!

Their landlord probably told them that you were nosey assholes! LOL.
