My mom who is 60 loves Athleta and it looks great on her, she is in very good shape, but is starting to get to that age where she needs to cover up more, due to varicose veins and a few bumps and older looking skin.
For me, I'm fit and have great legs and skin, so I'm not ready to shop at a store like Athleta just yet. I think it depends on what season of life you are in. I also think if you are younger, but a bit out of shape, then Athleta might be a good fit for you.
It is most definitely "mom clothes".

I don't get this. The dresses I have from there are all short. As are the sports. http://athleta.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=93758&vid=1&pid=581198002
