Twelve years years ago this coming week, just about all of us were flying our American flags.

Never forget.

And by "never forget" I can only assume you mean to write your congressperson to tell them to vote no on action in Syria since 911 was brought to you by American foreign policy.

Nope. What I mean is that I'll never forget the loss of my friend who was on the plane that went into the Pentagon.

But, that event was not about you and does not entitle you to become strident and treacly every year Sept. 11 comes around again. I hope you're not one of these people who post on Facebook about it.

It happened. It sucked. We know. We don't need to be told how to feel about it by you or anyone else.

What does flying a flag mean to you? Thanks.

PP -- my spouse came to this country as a political asylee and two years ago was finally granted citizenship. We proudly hang a US flag daily on our front porch as do many of our neighbor -- we live close to Fort Belvoir so a lot of government and military in our midst. I've never seen a state (VA) flag flown -- just those stupid flower / happy spring / happy fall flags the old people like to hang out every season. ; )

No me. I flew an Earth flag. The attack was not just against the US. It was against the entire western world and many people from all over the world perished.

Just reading your post, I've learned a lot about you.

It's not a pretty picture.

You must be a judgmental person.

"She says, judging herself..." LOL!

Yep, that is me. Takes one to know one.

Not an expert in flag etiquette, but it will look conspicuous to fly a state flag without an American flag, yet flying both might seem a bit much on a house aesthetically.

Feel for you. But what does it have to do with the flag?

Ha, a doze of cynicism is much better than nationalism or fascism.

Precisely. After 9/ll we showed the kids the headlines "Infamy!" (as in the headlines the only other time we were attacked on U.S. Soil - Pearl harbor) and we all went outside and put out our american flag. It's been always out there ever since. And at our vacation home.

I've seen several people fly MD flags, no problem. I guess if you want to do it right you fly 2 flags and put American flag on top.

Funny you should post this. We've always had an American flag out front, and my DH bought a Maryland flag at the Maryland Seafood Festival this weekend & wants to display it. I'm not sure whether to replace the American flag or put up two flags. Quandary!
