Yeah, this is what I was thinking. $350/kid recommended at Murch, but I'm sure people give at a wide range of levels. I think the HSA raises something like $200k-$250k/year between this and the auction and a few other fundraisers.
New Murch parent here. We got an HSA letter today asking for only $15 in dues. Do they ask for the $350 at another time?

$650 per kid. We've had 4 kids rotate through there pre-k to 5th. 1 still there.

22:11 here. Haven't read HSA material yet but will contribute for HSA dues plus classroom contributions so $40 this year plus whatever we hear from our 2 classrooms.

Also re: Mann, they have fewer kids in the school (<300) and do have many other fundraisers throughout the year.

The Mann money goes to the second teacher in every classroom (PK - 5th), the extra science teacher, the extra PE teacher, the extra performing arts teacher, outdoor facilities. Other things here and there. We got the letter today asking for $1500 per child.

I think that people who pay for privates are also paying a premium for the selective admissions/peer group. Few of the kids at Mann belong to country clubs, compete in regattas, etc. Few private school classrooms have one or two disruptive kids who consume a disproportionate share of the teacher's time.

If private school costs 35k a year isn't paying 2k a year for a good school a pretty sweet deal? Yes, I know the JKLM doesn't have fancy facilities, small class size etc. But for a fairly comparable experience it seems like a no-brainier.
