I doubt there will be consolidations, as there are a lot more current 5th graders waiting in the wings for school year 2014/15 than there are current 6th graders in the DC school system due to the post 9/11 baby boom and due to demographic shifts. My prediction is that SY2014/15 will be tighter but still more supply than demand. For SY2015/16, you may see all available spaces start to fill, but probably not even then, because at least DCI will be added on the supply side.

No shows are a common occurrence throughout the DC school system due to its uniquely open school choice system. 25% is likely above average. My gut would place the average for middle school at about 10%. I really wish data like this were made public.
