I’m so over the moms that drink cultural phenom. Not that moms can’t drink. But the wine oclock tshirts are a bit much. I’m with the younger non-alc generation for all the heath reasons (not of baby of the adult choosing to drink or not).

But whatever. How much wine you need is totally dependent on the attendees and their habits. Someone should know these people and how likely each woman is to have a polite one glass, or a whole bottle.

Isnt it weird to buy alcohol so the PG woman can sit and watch people drinking it?

Mimosas make sense for a brunch—which is what your party is.

Most baby showers are daytime events with minimal—if any—drinking.

I never drink if I’m driving.

Re: wine - Everyone should google the latest research linking alcohol consumption to breast cancer. It’s a known carcinogen. I’ve given it up completely, and most women I know have given it up as well. Not worth it.

I would not be serving so alcoholic beverages at a baby shower. If the guests cannot go without alcohol for 2-3 hours then they have serious problems

+1

It never would have occurred to me to serve alcohol. I’d probably have served sherbert punch, iced tea, and coffee.

It's also a partial display shower so I won't be opening gifts all day. We did the same thing with my bridal shower / same # of people and it was a lovely day.

My DH offered to purchase and bring the wine so thanks for your helpful responses.

I had to google this - does this mean you're asking people to bring unwrapped gifts? Aside from the huge stuff like the stroller, that seems really tacky.

Thank you so much for asking this question. I have to host a baby shower for 35 to 40 women for my niece. It is an outside lunch. I think i'm just gonna go with twelve bottles of wine, water and ice tea ptichers. And maybe a large bottle of Diet Coke and sprite with an ice bucket.
I anticipate I will have left over drinks. This is in someone's yard and there is no available kitchen because it's getting remodeled. So we are going to have to be as casual as can be.

Most of my friends are are big drinkers, but they still wouldn't have more than 1-2 drinks that early in the day. I had a bowl of sangria plus a bowl of non-alcohol punch (with some mixers on the side that people could add).--Plus some beer and a few bottles of wine. It was a 2 PM shower, and the sangria and punch did all get consumed. A few girls hung out on the patio into the evening, and they did end up drinking 2 bottles of the wine.

I've hosted 2 brunch showers. We did bloody marrys and mimosas. For 40 women, I'd have 8-10 bottles of sparkly wine with mixers for belininis/mimisas plus an alternative.

I was always under the impression that orange juice tasted like . . . well, orange juice. But now, I'm intrigued - you say there are different flavors? Such as?

I'm not the PP, but she probably means those different types of juice you can get in the OJ coolers at the grocery store-- orange pineapple, etc.

Here's the thing--wine keeps. No harm in WAY overpurchasing because you can drink it later. Underpurchasing, on the other hand, is super embarrassing. So, I'd get lots. But also agree that mimosas or bellinis are nice at a shower.

I vote an alcohol and non alcohol based specialty punch. Maybe something with champagne, pear juice, and slices of fresh strawberries or blueberries.

For a noon baby shower, I would go the alcoholic / nonalcoholic punch route.

We're serving champagne at mine this weekend (1-4 PM) with about 20 guests. I'd imagine we'll go through 8 bottles of champagne easily. We'll probably get 10-15 just in case. And that's with two of us being pregnant. We're a bunch of booze bags, I guess!
Th guys are joining us afterwards so anything that's leftover they get to enjoy.
