OP, I agree with you.

Getting better overall but still depends on region and sector. I think DC is pretty tight right now because of federal budgets and the sheer number of lawyers who are having a hard time moving around. Not everyone can get up and move but some of the DC credentials could play really well in places like Richmond, Atlanta etc.

No offense but how is that important.Important is a c level job, or executive in charge of the entire fcps. Most school administration is on break and able to apply.

A number of people have begun to leave my company in the last year whereas from 2009 to 2011 everyone stayed put. There is an opening on my team and we're having a hard time finding qualified candidates to fill the position.

Getting better, in terms of becoming easier to move between jobs and slightly higher raises. I will say though I don't think it's much better for entry level workers (I'm mid career).

The region currently has a surplus of highly-educated, highly-qualified individuals. The benefit for companies considering a move are plentiful with a readily-available workforce. The benefit for individuals is mixed, as there is a lot of competition for any given position.

I have seen my friends who relocated to other parts of the country, including to highly-desirable areas of California, do very well based on the cache and respect for their Washington experience -- much better, in fact, than if they had stayed here.

Market is getting worse, just ask the people that are out there looking. A lot have given up looking which may reduce the overall unemployment number, but has no reflection on positive growth.

I think this is very true. It may have worked out great for those who were able to snag a job and move here but it's working against those of us who are locals. Then again, I have seen a few friends move out of the area recently after tring to find jobs in other cities for a long time so hopefully it will self-correct soon enough.

Things are not as great as I expected. DH is severely underpaid. After several interviews and being told so many times he was neck and neck with another candidate he is still in the same job. Competition is very, very stiff for jobs in this area.

I have seen an increase in "term" positions. No benefits, no paid leave, no job security above year to year- but plenty of applicants because its what's available.

I think, in this area things are getting worse because of federal budget issues. In the rest of the country, things are definitely picking up (except near military bases).
