I am not a lawyer but I don't think this is true go to www.dlmp.org. They specifically use restaurants as an example of illegal taping. Regardless..the guy was a creep and I thought authorities should be aware. Somene so bold may be doing other things. Neighborhood watch programs encourage people to report strange behavior.

Recording a phone conversation without both parties being aware of it is illegal. If you are having a conversation in public, where you can be overheard by anyone nearby, this does not apply.

Actually it is against the law. I was having a phone conversation in Virginia and he was not part of it when he was recording me and he didn't get my permission.

What did you report? That somebody was videotaping you, which is creepy but not illegal?

OP here- If he's just some sort of mean creep who is posting pictures of us to make fun of us- whatever (as long as no one I know ever finds them). I hope that is it. He kind of reminded me of the creepy SLR guy that someone posted on prior page. I hiked all day with the two kids and if he is some mean spirited jerk whatever. But even if so, why would you need 5 minutes of video? I'm calling park service today it was at a NP.

If I caught you taking a pic of me without asking you'd have trouble finding your camera because I'd shove it so far up your butt.


Settle down, Rambo. I don't stick a camera underneath a bathroom stall door or into your kitchen window. If you're out in public, you allow people to see you. If they want to preserve what they see, they are allowed.

I know someone like this, who takes photos of people in public to post and make fun of. She thinks she's clever and funny, but it really just comes off as mean and immature, and pretty fucking sad given that she's a grown woman with a family. That sort of thing was funny when we were idiot teenagers. In our 30's...not so much.

That doesn't make it socially acceptable behavior. You take pictures of strangers so that you can make fun of them to your Facebook friends? Lovely.
