This year both of our K classes have 28-29 students.

my dd had 26 in kindergarten and it was fine. She had a great teacher, who was incredibly calm and quiet, and managed to keep the class under control that way. (under control, yet relaxed and pretty free at the same time. I was extemely impressed.)

My kids have had that many (24-26 in every year of elementary and the size has not stopped them from getting a good education. Their teachers have all been good (though I have small complaints.. We've had more than our share of first year teachers. Those teachers have been good, but more rigid and tense than I would like. They became more relaxed in their second years.)

I have not found that the large class size keeps them from getting pretty good individual attention. (I say large class size, but actually, it's the size I would have expected. When I was a kid, for all of elementary school we had a class of 50 with two teachers per grade.)

26 in kindergarten?!? that is nuts!

Maybe they have more 1st grade classes so less kids in each? How did it go with 24 kids? I'm a little concerned about 26 to be honest.

It's weird because when my son was in kindergarten last year, there were around 24 kids and in his first grade class this year, there are 16. I'm happy about it but I expected more.

My daughter was happy with her teacher too. (Not one of the three she was really hoping for, but also not the one she wanted to avoid.)

exactly. Excited to meet her on Friday. I just want my son to feel good about a new school

oh, and yes, I agree it's crazy to say they don't give it out on the phone when they will post it on the door. I think it's just because they don't want to spend their time answering all those calls, and then listening to the parents who want to argue for a reassignment. I'm pretty sure that would happen. It'd be nice if they could tell the out of town person, but if they do it for one, they'd have to do it for all.

OP! Thank you for your post. I have been so excited to find this out and today our postcard arrived!!! I don't know anyone but I am happy to know who he has even though we will meet her Friday

I always liked to know because it was fun for the kids to know who was in their class. Wanting to know your teacher assignment is not being a 2013 helicopter parent, it is just another way to ease the transition for a young kid who might be anxious by letting them know the name of their teacher and maybe a few friends in their class. Lighten up!
