That letter is perfectly fine and would be greatly appreciated by any reasonable parent. OP needs to climb down off her high horse.

Had I received such a communication over the summer from a principal, it would not have occurred to me to criticize its style or grammar on a public Internet forum. Instead, I would have appreciated the fact that the principal took the time to update the parents and held my tongue. I do understand, however, why the OP thought it was poorly, or at least hastily, written.

Me thinks that OP, who is too embarrassed to respond here, expects her child's principal to write like Joyce Carol Oates. OP is a stuck up twat!

I agree with most folks; I was expecting something really bad, and other than a few typos it was fine. It's a list of staffing changes and backgrounds. Not sure what you expect?

The purpose of writing is to communicate clearly. I think the principal did exactly that.

Such picayune issues in that memo. I agree with the posters who think that it is wonderful for the principal to share so much info during the summer. OP, you need to get a life and focus on the real issues in public education!

Way to embarrass a principal who is clearly trying to keep parents in the loop. I hope your need to gripe doesn't discourage this principal in the future.

This is badly edited. But the content is terrific. I saw this depth of info from our ES principal and I genuinely appreciated it. I wouldn't complain.

I bet only 1 in 30 principals even give this much info on their teachers in the beginning of the school year. Our local school doesn't post class lists or teachers till the week before. Virtuslly no communication over the summer. I bet a lot of parents appreciated knowing which teachers were leaving and starting.

I am amazed of the level of communication. I wish our principal would do this. Instead, there is a air of secrecy. We find out about teacher changes through the grapevine-which encourages gossip. This is awesome of this principal.

I find that those involved in education have entirely different standards than those in all other fields.

I gave up correcting the third grade teacher's spelling errors on spelling lists and had a difficult time reading simple emails from another sixth grade teacher, as she seemed to struggle to convey basic information.

My attempts to gently make the teachers aware of their mistakes (to include sending a note to the principal) were ignored.

I see it as striking a more casual, conversational tone. Yes, a few errors, but none that indicate that the writer is incapable of standard written English. The school maybe wanted to get the information out to the families, so someone hit send a little too quickly without proofreading. Not so bad though, and I'd be happy to be seeing this much information this far ahead of the start of the school year.
