I know one who is not black, Jewish, or Christian. His parents are not religious. I think they just liked the name.

All that said, I think it's a nice name, OP!

For some reason it reminds me of a Hispanic name as well.


Funny: every Emmanuel (or Manny) I have known has been Jewish or black. I like the name!

Fine name, but my immediate reaction is to the religious aspect. So it depends on whether that's something you want. I sing the Messiah a gazillion times a year so all I hear is the repetitions of Emmanuel, god with us.

It is a family name for us and we struggled with it for a 1st name for my 1st. We decided to use it as a middle name.
