(From OP) Thanks. It's okay - I have thick skin. Or is that thick fat? Whatever. Either way, I knew I'd get some trolls.

I did c25k a few years ago after not exercising at all for many years. It was HARD but I definitely think you can do it! Repeat the weeks that kill you (I think I did week 5 three or four times). I concentrated on working up to being able to run for 30 minutes without stopping and didn't worry about my pace. You can work on going faster later. Definitely get good running shoes. Also try to run on level ground.

You will feel amazing the first time you run a 5K!!

I've run a half marathon 60 lbs overweight. Running overweight is doable, you just need to work up slowly. Repeat as many weeks as you need to and you need to live with the idea you'll be slower than your thinner friends. But of you are running for weight loss remember eating is 80% of the battle. I have achieved a point where I was running enough to eat whatever I wanted twice, and it came with 40 miles per week of running. Even at half marathon training I have to be diligent to lose.

For bras I highly recommend the Fiona or Maia by moving comfort.

So, I'm trying the Couch to 5k thing. It's kicking my ass and I'm only in week 1. I'll stick with it but it will take me longer than planned to get up to jogging for 30 minutes straight.

Has anyone else done Couch to 5k? If so how overweight were you?

Thanks!

This month's Runner's World (which has lots of good info for beginners) has a bra guide towards the back. I think there were at least 4 recommendations for heavy-duty bras. I need lots of support whilst running, and those bras aren't cheap but are worth the cost!

That's another great idea. Thanks!

(From OP) Wow! Awesome advice! I hadn't thought of that!

I usually carry a milkshake or a Camelback full of soda while I'm running to keep hydrated, but I'll stop now that you have let me know that too much food is a problem when you're fat.

This is an awesome DD+ sports bra, for anyone who's interested:

Might be worth exploring the site's other options, too.

OP, fellow runner here. Good for you first of all!!!

I recommend investing in a session with an orthopedist to see if you can get a prescription for physical therapy for some stretches and strengthening exercises that will prevent injury. I am in PT right now for a knee injury, and wish I had done more preventative strengthening, stretching as it would have prevented my injury.

Because you are carrying extra weight initially, it is possible you can be more injury prone, so just echoing all the suggestions to take it slow, alternate exercise type, etc. Running is SUCH great exercise you want to preserve your ability to be able to do it for a lifetime.

Hang in there- getting started SUCKS but you can do it!!!

(From OP) You all have some great suggestions! I'm taking the running part slowly so that I don't get sidelined by an injury, but I'm doing some version of exercise everyday (long walks, ride bike, etc.). I need to try to work out with weights.

As far as my diet goes, I'm not anything with added sugar/corn syrup/sweeteners. That's eliminated a lot of bad food from my diet. I'm still doing rice and some other carbs. I'll try to phase most of them out.

(From OP) I don't have huge boobs for my size, so I'm getting by with a Champion brand sports bra. I wish I could be more help.
