If this issue "is wreaking havoc on your marriage" you really do need to slow down about having a baby and focus on your relationship with your husband. You have no idea what a newborn, very little sleep and a dramatic lifestyle change can do to a marriage.

Well excuse me that I am late on TTC! I think becoming a mom around 27 or 28 still qualifies me as a young mom! And for those of you questioning why DH and I didn't talk this out before...we did. He has always loved the dog and never once made an issue of her. Supposedly one of his co-workers had a miniature poodle who bit their infant, and told DH about it, and that is why he wants to get rid of Tatty. It is totally ridiculous in our case, because Tatty never bit or has never even growled. Ugh.

Agree with this poster. You have bigger issues in your marriage than dog vs baby. By the way, I hope you all choose the dog and no babies. I too was done having kids at your age. What took you so long...?

If my husband insisted on this he wouldn't be my husband any more. I'm 27 and pregnant btw. Our two dogs aren't children, but that doesn't make them disposable either.

The reason people are giving you the side eye is because either your sweet doggie isn't so sweet and your DH is looking for a way to adios Fido OR DH isn't ready to have kids and is hoping that you'll balk and say you could never give up your fur baby and the convo will be over for a while.

If my DH had seriously told me we had to get rid of our cats before TTC with no good reason, I wouldn't entertain either the ditching of my cats OR having a child with someone who sees them as disposable.

Have you done any research into baby proofing your dog? Have you talked with DH more about why he feels this way (in a sane way)? If it is wreaking havoc on your marriage, I hope that you have actually tried to do some research into this issue to present to your husband. Or at least tried to find out more of the basis for his thinking. Haven't explained either of those things here.

This. I'd be willing to bet money your husband is using this as an excuse to put off TTC. Time to have a serious conversation with him. Find books/articles online about babyproofing a dog/stories of your breed of dog and babies. If he still balks, it's time to find out what is REALLY going on.

Either that or he really hates your dog.

You never leave a baby/toddler unattended with an animal, even a tiny Yorkie.

We had a dog b/f a kid and everything was just fine. The dog may need to adjust and may start acting out with a new baby, but ask your vet for help if this happens.
