We've had factory painted cabinets for several years now and no chipping whatsoever.

+1 hate the eventual chipping . With stain I can touch up with a stain pen. With painted it is noticeable chipping.

I was just discussing doing this with neighbors. Thankfully, they have talked me out of it.
