I started drinking Starbucks blonde instead of dark and cut out sugar completely. I was putting in a ton of sugar. I still put cream in, but it doesn't seem as bad. Try dunkin donuts coffee too - it is sweet even without sugar.

I like really dark, strong coffee with a good glug of half and half. After trying to get used to milk or black and simply not liking it very much at all I started pouring myself half cups instead of full cups, and cutting out one entire cup a day. I found I'd rather cut out the amount of coffee rather than the enjoyment of the coffee I did drink. I do the same with desserts, too - tiny portions.

Agree with PP's that it's a slow acclimatization OP. Best bet is a number of factors:
- Start with a lighter roast. No need to go nuts but just dial it back a bit.
- Buy good quality coffee; invest in a $10 grinder and buy your beans whole, just roasted within past 1-2 days. Markets mark the date of roast on the bin in the bulk section.
- I hate artificial sweetener, but, Splenda makes a blend containing real brown sugar that tastes pretty good. Because artificial sweetener is so much more sweet than the real thing you need only a small amount.
- Keep the half and half, cut the coffee volume. I drink 2-3 cups per day but without thinking I could drink way more. Consider 2 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon.

I am trying to do this exact thing right now, OP. I can taste the Splenda in coffee (unlike other beverages) so I'm just working on retraining my palate to like coffee with less sugar. I did this with seltzer where I gradually reduced the amount of juice I added to it over time. You can acclimate yourself over time given the incentive. I also find that flavored creamer helps with this.

I add two Tablespoons real half and half (40 calories) and one teaspoon sugar (15 calories) to a very large mug of coffee that I have each morning. I only have one mug a day though. If you did this 4 times, I think you could just cut two hundred calories from elsewhere in your diet.

Stop buying the kind full of artificial flavors and crap. Plain old half and half is only 35 calories a tablespoon. You should also go out and get yourself a liquid measure (they look like little shot glasses. I got mine from Bed Bath and Beyond) and actually measure how much you put in your coffee.
