My thoughts exactly...

Do your faces crack when you smile?

I smile all of the time. It just isn't at someone else's expense...

The spirit if this thread is way over your head. Caring for elderly loved ones is hard and often very sad. Sometimes it's nice to be able to smile at some of the silly and sweet things they say. I bet everyone who has posted so far loves their parent dearly.

90 year old grandfather: "I've had to have so many abdominal surgeries they just should have put a zipper on me after the first one instead of stiching me up."

My 65 year old father told me I had a suspicious-sounding message on my answering machine from someone saying they were from the federal government asking about him. Turns out it was to schedule an interview with me for a friend's security clearance. The man needs hearing aids!

In such a predicament, either you laugh when you can or cry all the time and end up on Zoloft. Choose one.

In my grandfather's last week of life, he was having some neck and shoulder pain, so the nurses gave him some Bengay. Grandpa was a very conservative Southern Baptist.

Grandpa's observation: "I'll be going to Heaven smelling like Bengay!"

Great sense of humor right up until the end!

Recent one. My mother had a hip replacement and was laid up in the hospital. We were visiting and my mother was unhappy about some aspect of her care.

Mom: Get me my damn purse, I am out here. They are a bunch of quacks!
Dad: How are you going to leave? You cannot even walk yet!
Mom: I don't give a damn. I will crawl home to get out of this place!

Even the nurse she was arguing with had to laugh.

I have many more - my parents are a hoot and it is not because of their age. They have always been funny but age has enhanced and spiced up their humor.

My grandma used to tall about kids these days and how they "sex around."

When I was a kid and we'd attend a wedding my mother would whisper to me "Do you think they had sex before they got married?" Yes, her mom is the one who says young people "sex around" these days.

I love all of these. Gotta say the "Bartender" story and roommate story still have me snorting.

I bet being called "bartender" gave the staff a much needed laugh.
