OP here, and I'm always fascinated with the turns that a thread can take.

Quite experienced with both breeds but only recently heard of the cross breed. We're pretty much stuck on the sporting dogs. Our last dog was a purebred from a reputable breeder. I did volunteer with a breed-specific rescue organization for a number of years, so am not a total newbie.

PP, where did you get your's? Random rescue or from a particular person who deliberately did the cross-breeding?

A lot of people who see cute puppies have no idea about puppy mills and the whole industry.

If they can be enlightened and it cuts down on the excessive breeding then I think we should stand up and say something on behalf of the animals.

Springers can be nuts -- i would avoid.

Go to petfinder.com and look for the breed you want if you want a specific breed.

I have had 3 dogs that were "rescues" and they were all under the age of 2.

The continuous breeding of more and more dogs when there are so many already needing homes should be banned.

I wanted a lab, I went to petfinder, found a male yellow lab through lucky dog rescue and have had no problems with him. hes great with the baby and adapted to family life very quickly.

It should come up on every breed thread.

No, it isn't the same as adopting a child versus having your own, because we're not talking about people wanting to further their own DNA.

And it should come up on these threads where we're talking about mixed breeds to begin with. People assume mixing two breeds that you'll get the best of both breeds. But it doesn't always work that way. And frankly, even a breeder can't control that (unless they've bred several generations, and even then, my guess is that there were a lot of pups produced that weren't what people had hoped for).

If you want a mixed breed dog to begin with, go to a shelter, pound.

I've adopted older dogs. None of them were "projects." Best. Dogs. Ever.

Everyone labradoodle and labradinger I've ever met has been an out-of-control mess. And yes, they were all purchased by their owners as pups from "reputable" breeders and taken to training classes. And they still turned out hyper and difficult to control.

If you don't think a puppy is a "project," then you're naive.
