OP here. Ok, clearly I work in a different office environment. Our annual holiday party has everyone on the dance floor (from the GC on down) dancing, lip syncing and generally asking silly. If anyone was rich enough to have a pool, they would host a party and people would go in. But I understand that other office culture is more conservative.

No, and I also don't bring my bathing suit when I travel for work and I know a pool is at the hotel.

No way!

Is the law firm Latham? They have tons of summer associate events that involve wearing bathing suits (surf lessons etc). That is why I didn't apply there when I was a 2L

I don't think it's a male/female thing. While females are more aware of their body issues -- I frankly don't want to see anyone I work with in a bathing suit; I don't need to see their gut/chest hair etc. I'm in biglaw as well and if we did this event, I feel like 2 people would jump in and swim and everyone else would watch. Though we're a conservative office -- the Christmas party dance floor is empty all night every yr bc no one feels comfortable dancing with the partners watching; so usually you get a few oblivious partners dancing and maybe 1-2 lovey-dovey associates who can't keep their hands off each other and everyone else (400+ people) spectate.

Definitely not. I don't think it's a good idea to have your boss, co workers, etc see you in what is essentially a bra and underwear. Not cute. Not professional.

I would probably wear an athletic type one piece under a sundress but as long as I didn't have to get in the pool with kids would try to avoid it.

Agree. Office pool party is not appropriate.

I have an awesome body, I must admit, but this just doesn't sound professional to me, walking around or swimming in my bikini, with my coworkers. It's bad enough I need to see my coworkers, and to see them in bathing suits would be traumatizing.

I just went to one, DD wore her bathing suit and I wore just a T-shirt and shorts, but didn't go swimming.

I work in a ES and would do this if we had a faculty pool party but I doubt I would do it if I worked in a more formal office.
