I took a video of DH walking DD to class on the first day of school. I get weepy just thinking about it- I'm so glad we walked her in. Our school allowed it for the first three days after that we kissed her at the door and sent her in. She felt so grown up and proud of herself for walking in on her own later the first week. If DD was a bus rider i would have put her on the bus and gone to the school that first day.

Find out what the rules are and then see what makes sense for you and DC (and take lots of pics whatever you decide).

At our school, many parents, especially K parents were there very excited, taking pics. I thought it was kind of sad the kids that were there without their parents.

This is my plan. Our school said No parents inside on first day.

I'm not the OP but wanted to thank everyone. This is super helpful. Since we'll also be doing beforecare/aftercare we'll follow 01:11's plan!

Our school had an orientation day for the kindergartners. On the first day of school, everyone drove through carpool and dropped off and left.

Our principal said to do what the kid will normally be doing. My kid will take the bus and I will drive over to follow.

Took a pic at the house. So many kids ride the bus.

Everyone is different. Do what works best for your family, the school and the child. I for sure did not do the whole picture thing. I took a picture with my phone at the house and that's it. I met the teacher and classmates at open house so no need to see the teacher on first day. The before care was great and knew the routine so no worries there. I just took my child to before care, said a quick goodbye and left. There were no staying around for a few minutes, chit chatting, no tears or anything. However, I always dropped off like this at daycare so my child is pretty used to it and easily welcomes new change. We make first day of school a special day after school, not before. Once again, everyone is different.

I still take my child to school on the first day and pick her up.
