Yes....except for the really far out counties in Maryland. They scare me some.

New York City is not the archetypal city. There are other cities. And not everything in those other cities is, or should be, the same as New York City.

Please tell me how you get from Virginia to DC without crossing a bridge. Give me the exact route. Let's say your starting point is the Pentagon.

GO!

If that is true why has the Times written a string of articles like this http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/04/fashion/04Washington.html

There are articles like this about every city (really bad, dinky cities). Not sure this proves anything. The fact is that most people do not want to live on DC. It just isn't that great.

I did not say that nobody has to cross a bridge to get to DC. I said that lots of people can drive from surrounding areas to DC without crossing bridges. For example, people driving from Montgomery County, Maryland, or Prince George's County, Maryland.

It's not close-in VA people. It's the same sort who dress up to "be seen" in Reston. Oooh, jaunty hat!

We live close-in and get the toll rd crowd...kids from Manassas, Loudon, Ashburn, etc. it's closer than DC for them and beginning to rival Adams Morgan for the post-college drinking scene.
