Just as things can be a better deal and value for your money (maybe a Toyota Camry?), others are just plain better quality (top of the line Mercedes?) Same with paint.

To each his own. We love SW paints. The Harmony no-VOC paints worked great for us and still look great 7 years later. No smell after about 48 hours. Plus the customer service is fantastic. They have a whole history of all the paints we've used and if we need more they can mix it again for us without.us lugging in the old can. We had one can go moldy and over a year after we bought it, they still replaced the whole can. The sales guys will stop me when I'm buying and let me know when the next sale is so I can save money. Most of the paint we've used in our house was purchased for about the same as what you'd pay for the premium.paint at HD or Lowes and is better quality and we get the customer service.

If you go behr make sure you get this one, there is a standard "ultra" which isn't as good

Of course they will say that because painters get a discount and charge you more for the paint if they buy it from a paint store.

You might want to take a look at the Ace brand -- I think it's called Clark and Kensington. Consumer Reports rated it highly, and Ace stores often sell Benjamin Moore so you can get the BM pigments mixed into a less expensive base if you want (though Clark and Kensington has a lot of nice colors too)

Check professional painters' forums. The pros will uniformly say two things: A) get your paint from a paint store, not from a big box. B) in paint, price does indicate quality. BM and SW (the good lines,not the cheap ones) are superior to anything you can buy from Home Depot, lowes, ace, or places like that.

Duron was bought by Sherwin Williams and quality went way down. shame.

I do think Behr has improved over the years from the watered down formula of the past. Still, BM has a thicker consistency, easier application, and while it may not require fewer coats, it goes on with a more consistent texture. I'm not sure most people would notice a difference, but we have used the same color from both BM and Behr in our house (common areas in our living room - BM, basement - Behr), and the BM has a richer look. Whether it's worth the price difference is a personal choice, IMO.

I really like Behr. We have used it in most rooms in the house. It goes on very well. Restoration Hardware is also nice, but pricey.

I like Behr. I have thrived all the brands and they work best for me. I really disliked the glidden at Home Depot.

Behr Ultra Premium Low VOC smelled for about 3 months after I painted. The smell of the BM Aura dissapated completely after about a week, but "one coat" is serious BS--it took two coats.

I didn't have that problem

Duron. The middle range. Get the color from BM first and use the computer.

I am a little concerned about the smell since one of the rooms we are going to paint is our daughter's room (she's 1). Perhaps I will just split the difference and do BM for her room and Behr for our (the master) bedroom. I'm curious to see the difference.
