yes, but pomona seems very different than stanford or other big cali schools.

it seems to marry the best of elite east coast LAC with west coast sensibilities and geography.

in that respect it seems extremely unique.

Scripps alum here. Love the Claremont colleges. Best years of my life! I have good friends from all the colleges.

My kids are in college and high school, and there's been a lot of interest in Pomona among their friends for exactly the reasons you cite. The kids we know who are current students and recent grads love it. They're among the nicest kids I know and are also top students who had many other options for college. My 2 oldest chose a big urban campus on the east coast, but our youngest -- and savviest -- is interested in Pomona. We're going to visit in a few weeks.

I meant bad experience but the double entendre of bed experience is kind of funny.

You can google lesbians and any college and you will find lesbians.

Have you read through the list? The first article actually got a lot of attention about how women succeed at women's colleges, and has nothing to do with lesbians. One of links is about how queer women are invisible at Scripps. The last one is about how the lesbian stereotype is LESS true at Scripps than other women's colleges.

I don't doubt your relative had a bed experience but it would also be bad if a straight roommate had her lover over every not. Thats just not cool roommate behavior.

But you have failed to prove that Scripps is some kind of lesbian haven. I think you have a problem with women's colleges in general. The others have a much bigger stereotype in this regard. And yet they continue to churn out straight graduates.

No, I said Google "Scripps College Lesbians" and see what you see. You did not do that. Instead you decided to try and tear apart the first entry which I posted to help you get started. Since you can't seem to do that, I have googled it again for you. This is only page one. Please note references to "Thriving lesbian community". My relative had to live with a roommate whose lover stayed over every single nite and listen to them. She really felt that heteros were not wanted there:

Wow, just wow. This thread from College Confidential has all of three posts: (1) How is Scripps for lesbians? (2) I want to know as well. (3) Its a small campus but you can meet other lesbians through X organization.

Please tell me why you think this EXACT thread couldn't and hasn't occurred for every single college in this country (except maybe Oral Roberts, but you know what I mean.) You think just because all of two lesbians ask what it would be like for them, and someone doesn't even really answer their question, that this is somehow evidence of a majority lesbian campus.

not really. The quality of students admitted varies between the colleges. The rigor of the courses at each college similarly varies. I went to CMC, I took virtually all of my classes at CMC. I took a couple at Pomona. It was very unusual to have a Pitzer student enrolled in a CMC class. Similarly- I would have failed a math course at Harvey Mudd. But Scripps students who took a lot of classes at CMC also sometimes transferred to CMC.

I think this is correct. I got in to both Pomona, Scripps and Pitzer - I thought about enrolling through Scripps beause of the beauty of the dorms - and taking classes everywhere else but it really doesn't work out that way in the end. The colleges each have their own flavor. The "Scrippses" are looked down upon. Pitzer was no grades at the time I applied which would have spelled doom for anyone doing grad work (no record). A relative went to Scripps and hated it because of the full out lesbian activity in the dorms - she felt in the minority and unwanted being hetero. If you are looking at the Claremont colleges, you should attend the one with the best ranking that suits your interests. Here's the rankings:

Lesbians! OMG!

I'm pretty sure lesbians are not in the majority at Scripps. We know a straight woman there who loves the place. I'm sorry folks at other schools look down on Scrippsies but thats more a reflection of them (and most likely their sexism). We've talked to quite a few women who find it intellectually challenging and love the place. But, hey, if you choose a college based on rankings, well . . . I feel bad for you because you are handing over an extremely important decision to some outside company and basing it on what they, rather than you, value.

I know a nice guy who currently goes there from the east coast and loves it. He was on the waitlist and was thrilled to get off of it to go there. He's an econ major.
