I have issues with the claim "religious intolerance." There are areas around the world where some groups of people circumcise girls in the name of religion, and people call it genital mutilation.

Religious tolerance is one thing, but I think there are some practices done in the name of religion that should be questioned because they involve altering a child's (who is unable to consent) genitalia irreversibly.

Equating circumcision with female genital mutilation is nuts. They aren't remotely the same thing. One is done as a covenant with God (and for health reasons) while the other is to punish and control women to inhibit their sexual pleasure.

It's like equating getting your ears pierced with having a bullet in your head...hey, they're both holes!

You must be so much fun to have around.

How would you even know unless you tried to look in my son's diaper?

Maybe because it seems you can't help yourself from blathering on about it.

I don't talk about my son's penis. And I certainly wouldn't talk to you about anything.

If you decide to chop away at your sons penis or not, is on you. I just prefer that the penises that I encounter, in any hole, is circumcised. Nothing turns me on when it comes to uncircumcised penises. Lucky for you, I probably won't be sleeping with your son so carry on.

I am assuming you don't have said son yet? I've seen a number of my friends' kids without diapers/pants, just because you help each other out watching the kids, and even when the diaper changing stage is over, little kids are not the most modest.

Uh, I'm Jewish and find this hilariously naive. There is a major ceremony at which parents proudly have their sons penises mutilated. Many people are usually invited. There's gifts and food. The status of your sons penis is not a secret! You invited people to have an opinion on it!

Not us. We had a small private bris with maybe 12-13 immediate family members. Yes there was food but it was not the huge party you described. I have been to all different types of Brit Milot-- not everyone does things the same way you do, OP.

Hopefully not 16. Maybe 18. But, is it really going to matter to Larla anyway if she is getting down at 16?

What on earth that means. Girls who are 16 when they have interactions with penises (including 16-year-old penises) are such sluts that they don't even care if the penises have foreskins or not? Please explain.

No I'm not. I am having it done, not a celebration. So guess I am not so naive.
My Inlaws didn't do it to my husband. So I know both sides. But I think opinions on this are really no ones business. It's insane this comes up here and how emotional people are about it. Don't do it if you don't want to. I am sure I disagree with how plenty of other people raise their kids. So ridiculous when there are actual things to worry about.

Anonymous wrote:I don't care whether or not you have your child circumcised. I think there are valid medical and religious arguments on both sides, and that both are valid choices. I happened to choose not to.

However, I do think we, as a society, have a responsibility to protect all of our children, so of course there are things that you could do (and that sadly are not uncommon) to your child, including to his penis, that I would care about deeply and report you if I knew.

People who are vehemently anti-circ view it as a form of child abuse, and so they care in the same way that I would care if I thought you were doing something abusive.

This. And don't worry, nobody is "checking out" your son, as the other poster put it. I don't know who did or didn't circumcise their son, but I oppose circumcision when the topic comes up in a discussion (which usually doesn't happen IRL).

Because you are thinking about the penis your daughter might prospectivly have sex with. Yes, that is weird, and frankly I'm worried about her privacy much more than I'd worry about the state of anyone's penis.

You're gonna have to explain it to me like I'm stupid. What is weird about anticipating that my daughter will have a sex life someday? Are you just going to leave sex ed up to the schools?

Nothing is weird about anticipating that your daughter may have sex. I anticipate that my son may have sex. He's probably a little older than yours, so I've acted on that assumption, e.g. by getting him a Gardasil shot, making sure we have a routine where he can be alone with his doctor in case he has questions, answering his questions, and teaching him what a condom is.

However, the notion that you, as a parent of a baby girl, have some claim to my child's penis because in some day someone, who is not you, might choose to have sex with him? It's like turning misogyny on it's head. The decision on whether or not to circumcise a baby boy is made by the child's parents, perhaps with advice from the people who know and love him, not by people who reduce him to a future sexual partner for their snowflake.
