Interesting thread....well I'm a social worker and make 85,000. Have been in the field for 15 years and have an LCSW. Live in Virginia suburbs. My husband makes more than I do (federal employee) but he also has advanced degrees. I work with a very challenging (but rewarding) population.

I always feel good about my salary (it is more than what many SWers make, and would be considered a decent salary for outside this area) until I hear what others make.

Well if it makes you feel any better you make what I make, and I'm a clinical psychologist.

And I live in the close-in burbs in a townhome.

I was going to add that my friends who are in this field live in the sf Bay Area, make around 100k and are comfortable (and single!).

Just because you are in the helping profession doesn't mean one takes an oath of poverty. To be a well-off social worker doesn't mean you've compromised your ideals and quest to help others.
Well, you got to be helping some enormously grateful food stamp recipients.

No, you do not make a salary of high class business professional, an do not live like a janitor at Walmart, but I suppose a man is a plan

Or a woman.

That would be my DH, a social worker, who married me, a lawyer.

Pretty much this, or they have family money.

Huh?
