Le Diplomate is not hip anymore and you can get res. the same night. All the people who keep recommending it, I'm wondering if they actually have been there.
90% of the time it's parents and toddlers. We go with the kids all the time, it's nice, but it's a bistro, the opposite of hip. Seriously.
I've been to Le Diplomate three times. The first time, a week after opening, even the sidewalk outside was mobbed, just people waiting to get their name on the list. Then a brunch; people without reservations were waiting 45+ minutes. Then again just this week. We got there just before six and got exactly the table we wanted, no wait. By 7:00, there was a small crowd outside waiting for a table.
So I think that yes, you can get a reservation same day. Do not try to go without reservations during dinner or brunch hours.
It's pretty much my ideal for a grown-up restaurant (and yes, grown-ups often have kids, so I don't see being kid-accepting as a negative).Great atmosphere, excellent food. What's not to like? So, PP, what do you think is "hip"? White pleather and black lights, with oonse-oonse music cranked to 11?
