I always went for 8 weeks. I am white, yes. And we were not rich, but obviously you would have to be at least comfortable to afford it.

I went to sleep away camp for 8 years, all summer, and I always WISHED for an infirmary stay. Air conditioning, TV, Popsicles, extra attention... It sounded like heaven. Alas I had the bad fortune to always stay healthy .

Step symptoms usually pass quickly with meds. He will really want to get back to all the friends and fun activities and camp will watch him carefully.

Not the OP but I am a teacher and I scrape money together for sleepaway camp for my son. One of the best experiences of my life. He looks forward to it all year.

Do they have a way you could talk to him via Skype or Facetime?

Don't worry! He will be better soon and back to enjoying camp.

He will be better managed at camp than at home. The camp will have a nurse on staff 24/7 to keep an eye on him. It's just strep. No big deal.

When I went to sleepover camp the infirmary had a TV. You would get many visits from friends while there. It was not a bad place to be for a day or two.

Former camp counselor here - I know the infirmary staff will take great care of him. The staff/his counselor will make sure that he is comfortable and distracted with fun things to do and maybe even eat as he recovers.

It was kind of a well-kept secret among campers and counselors alike that a night or two in the infirmary was a pretty nice experience. At my camp, it was the only cabin with a private bathroom and a/c and a tiny fridge filled with juice and snacks. We also had the sweetest, grandmotherly-type nurse who ran the infirmary and catered to the kids. If you go to the infirmary, you're not so sick that you have to be sent home - they'll give meds as needed, keep things quiet, make sure you eat and drink the right foods and help you relax.

I also got very sick as a camp counselor...and have first hand experience in the infirmary.

This, exactly. When I was 12 and at camp (and not even sick), I was fine. Until I called my mom, and then ended up a crying, semi-hysterical mess. THere's a reason they make you write letters instead.

And I wasn't the only one like that, either.

WTF, it will help mom's peace of mind. What's so bad about that? And it might make the kid feel good to hear mom's voice, since he is under the weather.

Geez!

He called me. He is already feeling better and fever down or gone. He sounds good. Thanks for the support.

Maybe he could do with books or magazines in a care package (if you can send it in time).
