We have a pool fence mainly to keep the dogs and other critters out of the pool. We don't have small children wandering around in our back yard so not really an issue for us.

From an insurance standpoint does it matter? I don't know.

That is a very good point. What about decorative waterfalls? It can all get sort of crazy!

That's a good point. A solar pool cover can add safety + give you some extra weeks of swimming every year. I would think that if you have a pool cover + a privacy fence around the yard you should be fine.

I have a fence around my pool and I am seriously considering one of those solar covers too.

I live on 30 acres and my county does not require a pool to be fenced.
We are able to obtain insurance.

Yes. But if Op wants a fence around the pool she can ask that one be installed as a contingency to her offer. If Op wants a fence, she should get a fence.

+1

Sounds like OP is trying to get out of buying a fence, or can't afford one. In which case, OP - you need to consider a fence WITHOUT a pool. You are taking on HUGE liability - that you simply can not handle.

I think she is legitimately worried about insurance. If she is nervous, she should insist that a fence be installed around the pool as a contigency. If it's a money thing (she can't afford the pool fence) she might want to consider the cost of maintaining the pool along with increased utility costs too.

Fairfax County requires a fence or no construction and I imagine your insurer would drop you (State Farm makes annual visits to check out home). http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/dpwes/navbar/faqs/res_pools.htm

Wouldn't a fence around the yard count as a fence around the pool?

I'm assuming OP is talking about a pool that is not enclosed. Am I wrong, OP?

Have you called brokers who deal with multiple companies? They may be more likely to know which companies would be likely to give you a policy.
