pay off the credit card, then freeze it in a block of ice, not to be used except for extreme emergencies.

credit card and work hard not to run it up again. Put what you were paying for your monthly (minimum plus the extra) into your savings account. that way you will have a nicer emergency savings and won't have to rely on the credit card again.
