Honestly, being invited to someone else's members only pool is not a big priority for me, and we can go to our very nice local pool for less money than that. I'd just suggest that we do that (or something else) together another time.

S/O -- you host a team party. Do you ask your guests to pay? You're the host by virtue of the fact that you're the only one with a pool membership.

We just asked everyone to kick in $20 and had that cover food/admission/expenses for the party. Is that cool? Or should we have just eaten the cost?

OP - I would not expect you to pay for me and my kids to swim at your pool. A lot of these PPs are MOOCHES. Next time you can always say something like, "We would love you to join us for a swimming pool playdate if you're free. Just a heads up that there's a fee of $5."

I do agree that it was probably bad manners though and I feel bad about that but like PP, I wouldnt want someone not to invite me bc of the cost.

I am a teacher/mom and I always let my friends/family know that they are welcome to come to the pool this summer. I would be broke very quickly if I paid the $10 guest fee for everyone. Maybe in DCUMland, $10 per person is nothing but it is a lot to me. None of my friends/family expect me to pay for them either. We invited my son's friend to the pool last week and his mom sent him with $15. $10 for the pool and $5 for a snack. I told her I always pack a lunch and I packed something for him. We stay for 4-5 hrs at least too b/c $10 is too much to be there for only an hour or two.

We recently moved here, and so no membership for us. I'm quite happy to pay the guest fee and wouldn't be offended one bit if our friends asked us to pay. However, I usually offer to pay upon entrance. I don't want someone to not invite us for this reason. Now, if they are just taking one kid I don't sweat it, but a family.... I usually come with snacks for everyone too. Most people are happy to stay in good graces so as not to risk future invites.
