Ok, I am new around here. Currently pregnant. I have not spent ANY of time with my friends discussing baby names now or in the past. I don't know what's trendy and really don't care about the top 100 names on the SS list or top 100 girl/boy of DC. So I am asking this question really because I don't understand why all folks talk so bad about folks who choose the trendy name. If someone likes the trendy name, why are they considered not "very bright"?

I am naming my son David after DH, who was named after his father. I don't think it is trendy, but because it is very traditional and I guess common. Are DC folks going to think I'm not very bright because of such a common name choice? Not that I care, I'm just wondering why people make such comments. Honest question.

I have a David, also named after his father, so you sound like a smart woman to me. I also have an Anna.

Not the unkind PP but name that might signify that you are not very bright would include:

An uncommon name that is terribly spelled on purpose, for the sole purpose of being "unique" (think something like Zane spelled Zaaynn, or some other ridiculous way)

Any name that I might find mixed in my frufru cocktail.

A name that you might hear on Teen Moms or a daytime soap (In my day, this would be the Brittney, Brittainy, Brittni type names, not sure what would fall under this category now. Perhaps the Aiden, Braden, Caden, Jayden, Hayden, Zayden series of names???)

Stripper names

Names that when coupled with your child's last name, guarantee that the child will be forever embarrassed every time they see their full name in print or hear it spoken.



We know all that. But OP's names, the ones that led the unkind PP to say they indicated that she wasn't very bright, fit none of these criteria. So...?

I can't play If I posted DD's name, everyone would know who I am. We gave her an unusual name because DH is from another country. I personally think it's pretty (well, duh, I picked it) and sometimes I wish I could get objective judgment on it. But not enough to "out" myself on DCUM
