Bwha-ha-ha-ha-ha! You could get in at Ludlow-Taylor, I bet.

I know several people who are IB for Peabody and still waitlisted. Not gonna happen if you're OB.

FWIW, I got off the waitlist for JO Wilson OOB.

A long waitlist is usually a good indicator of demand.

A short waitlist could mean a bad school, but it could also mean that the school is simply not full. There are charters, for example, that probably draw students from places where the schools would be full without them.

That might be the case, for example, in Ward 5 - Langdon's good, but if you got into Stokes, etc., you might send your kid there. That would shorten Langdon's waitlist or lead you not to apply.

Re: Raymond: I have always been leery of the school because of the boys hanging around outside off of Rock Creek Church Road, who never seem to be up to anything good. But hey, things can get better quick.

OP here. I need to do more research, but isn't no waitlist a sign that the school isn't very desireable? Unless they just added PS-3 and did a bad job publicizing it?

Raymond is nearly 100% FARMs with pretty low scores. But it's improving, has a beautiful new rec center right next door and will have the new Safeway complex a block away in a year or so. As just about everyone has said at one time or another, you pretty much can't go wrong with PS3 in DCPS. Most programs do well. So, don't toss Raymond off your list immediately. There are so many families moving into that area of Petworth that Raymond will surely begin to attract more middle class families. Go tour it! Maybe you'll hate it, but maybe you'll see possiblity too.

Not DCPS, but I know families that are very happy with Amos 2, around the corner from you. It would be an excellent backup option for PS3 and PK4.

OP, if you commute on the Red Line, you may also want to consider Two Rivers. It's 2 blocks from the NOMA station. It has 2 PS-3 classes.

Takoma. Also try Bridges, and Sela is expanding to PS-3 next year.

Putting together everyone's thoughts, roughly, you could do:
CH Montessori@Logan
Barnard
Langdon
Burroughs
Takoma
West?
