Every time I see this title, I read it as "How to keep dishwasher from smiling", and then I wonder why the dishwasher is smiling.

Same her. No bug chunks go it, nothing to decay. Smells fine. Well, not bad.

I'm betting it's gunk caught in the drain at the bottom. I cleaned ours out a couple months ago, after having never touched it for several years, and it was absolutely disgusting. Dishwasher immediately worked like new again though. Very gross, but very satisfying to clean it out -- almost like popping a pimple.

[b]We have owned the Bosch Dishwasher SHX65P05UC/63 for approx 5 years. We experienced the same "bad smell" problem. We had service people come out. They ran a cleaner through it, checked the drainage hose for elevation which was elevated properly and suggested I try a different dishwasher detergent. Nothing worked. After spending hours reading about this problem on-line and not finding a solution that worked, I decided to try leaving the dishwasher door open once the cleaning cycle was complete and the drying cycle begins. I also changed from Cascade powder to Finish Powerball Quantum. My dishes no longer have that discusting smell. I'm not thrilled about having to leave the dishwasher door partially open, but it works. I think it is the way the dishwasher drys the dishes since there is no visible heating element. Check your dishes before the dry cycle. Mine do not smell bad until after they dry with the door closed. I will not buy another Bosch Dishwasher but until I need another one this method works for me. Hope this helps someone else.

clean the filter
run a cycle with vinegar
run a cycle with baking soda
make sure all gunk is removed from dishes before future washes to prevent re-occurrence.

I pour some bleach in the bottom of the dishwasher before running it.

Well one is their top of the line & the other is midrange. The midrange stinks!!! I have had the Bosch repairman, my own appliance repairman & my plumber out. Everything is done correctly & nothing in the drain. It stinks. Bosch cust svc claims they've never heard of that as a problem but google Bosch dishwasher smells/stinks & there are full websites dedicated to it!

We had the same problem with the bosch something about how it keeps water in the resevoir to keep the pump wet. We found it helpful to essentially wash all dishes that are made with egg before putting them in, running the dishwasher at least once a day, frequently washing the trap, and periodically running dishwasher magic.

Buy seriously I will never buy a bosch again. I had none of these problems with any other dishwasher I"ve used. My parents and brother have the same problem with their bosch...

Also, you may want to clean your disposal in case something smelly is stuck in there. To clean the disposal, cut up a lemon and throw in some ice cubes...will clean it out nicely.

Smelly dishwasher research that I have done points to the drain hose not being elevated high enough with the results of old water settling in the hose (fermented) causing the smell. Try checking under your sink to see how the drain hose is positioned.
