Well, so much for that. DCPCSB just rejected One World's application. The application had grammar and budget errors.

I hope they reapply next year. I read parts of their application a few days ago and liked that their model stresses both academics and the arts (1.5 hours of arts after school 4 days a week) as well as community service.

I didn't quite get the part about the feeder elementaries, though. They said the feeders will be: Latin American Montessori Bilingual, Potomac Lighthouse PCS,
Two Rivers PCS, Inspired Teaching PCS, Yu Ling, and Washington Latin. I looked online for a school named Yu Ling in DC and didn't find one so I'm going to assume they meant Yu Ying but I thought Yu Ying was feeding into DCI. And doesn't Two Rivers have their own middle school?

To read the threads here on DCUM, "schools with potential" are the ones under the most attack. There is a hardcore, rabid anti-charter contingent here, and they are particularly vitriolic toward "schools with potential" - they cannot tolerate anyone rocking the boat.

Wow, just two. I am glad, though, that the Board is being selective--I hope only programs with real potential are approved. And the Montessori I assume will mean more spots for early childhood ed, which we certainly need.
