PP, how will you feel if your children drink alcohol in moderation when they are 21 or older? How will you feel if your children become smokers when they are 18 or older?
Because there are only two ways your post makes sense to me:
1. You are opposed to smoking and to drinking alcohol.
2. You are not opposed to smoking.
I recognize the dangers of both smoking and alcohol. There is most definitely a problem in this country with people who drink entirely too much alcohol. And very little attention is ever given to the health dangers of alcohol.
The dangers of smoking are constantly advertized in public service announcements, to the point that people are upset if their kids even *see* someone smoke. But look at college campuses and the amount of binge drinking that goes on, and it's thought of as okay.
I'm not *opposed* to either activity. I want people to be well aware of the risks of both activities. And I don't think kids are getting the information that drinking (even moderate drinking done regularly) can do damage to the body.
I'm glad that smoking is NOT advertized on tv or in ads. But I feel like we're bombarded with alcohol ads, and no one seems to care about that.
I've been to events with children where adults are drinking heavily without any thought that there are children present and observing their behavior. And I think that is just as disturbing as having your kids see your neighbor smoke.
