Not that poster, but most of the world cosleeps, so lots of people, I guess. Plus, I don't consider doing what allows everyone to get the most sleep making the world revolve around the child.

19:19 here. We've also started looking for Residence Inns, Fairfields and other hotels that aren't necessarily full suites, but that have a separation between the living and sleeping space. That way, even if DD shares the bed with us, we have the other part of the room away from her at naptime and once she goes to bed.

We co-slept but you still face the same issue -- unless you want to be in the dark how do you manage sharing a room.

We found that if we laid down with her until she dozed off, then we could get back up, pretty much like at home.

Wear the kid out before bedtime. Whether it's a busy day, running up and down the hallway (don't judge, that's a separate thread) or spending an hour in the hotel pool. Exhausted child helps.

Last month we stayed at a Hyatt that had a nice nook for the desk/work area, so we got a rollaway bed and that was DD's space. We were able to turn on the tv and relax after she went to bed.

Just curious, have you ever arrived at a hotel that is fully booked, and they tell you they have no adjoining rooms available? We've considered doing this, but I'm paranoid that we'll arrive and they won't have any, and it will end up with Dh in one room with a couple kids and me in a room on a different floor with the others (we have a large family).

I like the vrbo idea!!

That, or just get 2 adjoining rooms. That's what we do.

Hiding behind a bed? Hiding in the hallway? This is all ridiculous!

The only reason your kids wont go to bed is because you allowed them to be this way. WHY must the world revolve around the child? We stay in a hotel, I tuck my kid in the bed, kiss him goodnight and tell him it is time to go to sleep. End of story. He turns over and goes to sleep. He knows who is boss and that he needs to listen. I keep one light on in the furthest corner and get on my laptop, sometimes will play music on a low level (MY music, not lullabys) and he goes to sleep. It has always been like this, since the time he was little.

The tone of this is very off putting! I have amazing sleepers but would never talk/think the way you do about parents who have less than awesome sleepers.

Ha. We dont cosleep and keep a rigid bedtime/nap routine but this is also not an issue for us. We are able to get them to sleep and just hang out after. It just takes a little bit longer than if we were to plop them in their beds at home.

Even before we had kids, my husband and I started renting apartments or houses through vrbo.com and homeaway.com instead of staying in hotel rooms. It is an option I highly recommend.

We just got back from a trip to California with our 2yo. In LA, we stayed on the first floor of a house that had a private backyard, LR, 2 full bathrooms, a kitchen and bedroom with separate office area where we put his crib. All that for $135 a night in a nice neighborhood. As our flabbergasted friends in LA said, "That's more than Motel 6 in a crummy part of town."

Besides the additional space, we had a kitchen, which saved money on breakfast, snacks and the occasional dinner in; our son could nap without a maid coming into the room in the middle of the afternoon; and the owner had an extensive guide including nearby restaurants, shops and hospitals, as well as her own doctor's and dentist's contact info in case of emergency.

Once you start renting condos and houses, you won't go back.

This is what we did.

I would pretend to go to sleep at naptime and bedtime. Naps were tricker but bedtime was easy - 20 min in the dark, then get up and watch TV etc.
A few times at a beach - would do the nap on the beach, in the shade.

I actually started to enjoy the slower pace of travelling with a child.

5:37 I didn't co-sleep but am surprised this is an issue for OP.
