Love Haycock and 22043. It has everything... walk to school , walk to the metro, walk to the grocery stores, and short drive to the mall and close to major highways, AAP center so siblings can stay together if one is not in AAP and also stay close to neighborhood friends.

How do you know OP is not one of those evil WOHMs that only allows their kids outside on weekends or after 7:00? Maybe OP likes bedroom communities. Maybe OP has a Nanny so that her child can play outside with your little snowflakes afterschool.

Olde Creek/Frost/Woodson. Small elementary school with an active PTA, and very much a neighborhood school. The middle and high schools speak for themselves.

I have heard that LA gen ed is not that great. This is from folks whose kids are in Gen Ed. Most importantly, live in a community with SAHMs, not a bedroom community. You want your kid to be able to play outside with other kids, and not just on the weekends or after 7PM.

We have had a wonderful experience at Freedom Hill ES (Vienna/Falls Church) one daughter in LLIV AAP and one not.

Both have excelled with the active and engaged staff there. However, if you look at Great Schools ranking it is a "6" That "rating" is the antithesis of our positive experience at the school.

I would rather go with a center if you have more than one child. All of your kids will attend the same school weather they are AAP eligible or not. Less transfers issues, stronger community feelings and stronger bonds among sblings.

I for one will say nice words about Freedom Hill. We love it. We too were looking for something out of this world when we were buying the house and now that DC is in 4th grade, we couldn't be happier. They have the most involved teachers, willing to try new techniques and I haven't heard from any of the parents in 5 years now that they hate the teacher, that the teacher is unprofessional/lacks education, etc. They have great principals and a very nice front office staff. DC loves FLEX and is enrolled in AAP. His best friend is also in AAP and has an IEP. Parents are raving about our school.

I think this is a school management issue. I've heard the same complaint about Sunrise Valley in Reston.

We shall see what happens when we get to 3rd grade. I do know families with kids in the higher grades, though, and haven't heard anything from them about a divide or favoritism.
