They could also decide to go with a neighborhood based program like Paint Branch's Chinese language program that is only for boundary students.

One thing to remember is that looking at the elementary schools in the Hyattsville/UP/Mt. Rainier/Chillum/Lewisdale area, in aggregate they're overcrowded by 900+ students. The new school will at 700+ seats to the area, but we'll still have a degree of overcrowding as some, if not all of the schools in the area. If a specialty program goes into the new school, that will reduce how effective the new school will be in reducing overcrowding.

Kevin Maxwell has a reputation for liking specialty and magnet schools. My guess is they are looking at the county as a whole and noticing what's lacking in certain areas. I'm also guessing that there will be a big shift in boundaries.

As far as the curriculum is concerned, how are they deciding on what will be offered at the new school.
