To the OP: I have no basis for my opinion other than going through the process with my 2nd grader. But hearing your situation, and your child's stellar GBRS (15 is awesome), I would consider taking a test. If your child gets a stellar score on the test, then there's really no objective reason for the county to deny eligibility for your child again. If you haven't tried the WISC, I would consider that. Slots are filling up fast though for the psychologists.

No outrage... just why? Just what determines how the child gets into the Center? Apparently not GBRS, test scores, grades, ECs, actual performance in the AAP Full time class...

That's fine, then appeal. But I don't get the outrage for not getting in. Your child has not been performing in a Center. Just because you want your child to go to a Center MS doesn't mean he or she can/should.

I do not think you need to contact the AAP office as they do not determine who fills out a Local Level IV program. You can certainly appeal through the stated process. And, talk to your principal since he or she is the one who fills in Local Level IV classes.

The plan is to stay in Local Level IV in Elementary and go to the GT Center Middle School in 7th.

And, of course, this is impossible just being a "guest" of AAP.

(OP here) That's just it - we don't know if he will be invited or not. And even that invitation seems like it's too up in the air to be trusted.
If they had an influx from the GT school because it is overcrowded (which it is, btw) he would be out.

We will be appealing. I forgot to mention he got a GBRS of 15(!!) too...

DS will be in 5th grade next year. His scores qualified him to be in the pool in 2nd Grade. Do you think he needs to take the WISC to qualify full-time given that he already qualified back in 2nd grade and has successfully completed full-time AAP in 4th grade?? Seems ridiculous to me.

What else in an appeal would be good- what is important?

More writing samples ?
Latest Grades?
Parent recommendations?

On the Appeals Form, it also mentioned something about "reports of advanced academic services at the local school". I don't know if this is an official report or something we as parents point out. To be honest, I'm not sure they even understood that he was in Full-time AAP already (if only as a guest) and had already done very well in it...

OP -- will the child still be a guest next year at the local level 4? Just wondering if it means they are keeping the status quo even if they aren't allowing him to go to the center. Might not be a bad thing if you and the child are happy where he is now.
