Agree that this was a poorly made decision. Even more sad is the fact that the head track coach went along with the 'overall winner' idea. Terrible!

I run at least one race a month, sometimes several, of varying lengths and I have never, ever seen an award for overall winner, regardless of gender. Never. There is always an overall male and an overall female and then often age groups awards. Posters who talk about how the over all winner could have been a woman have no idea what they are talking about. They certainly aren't runners.

And if the organizers of this race didn't distinguish between overall female and overall male, thats another strike against them on fairness.

Did you read this? They had an overall winner, regardless of gender, and then an opposite gender winner. If a woman would have had the fastest overall she would have picked first and then the 1st place man would have picked after. This way one person from each gender got a prize.

Having to deal with people like you are the reason others stop doing volunteer work.

No seriously. Are you a runner? Because awarding the prize to the fastest overall is tantamount to awarding it to a man. Let's award marathon prize money to the fastest overall runner. (Sorry Paula Radcliff, women's world record holder, you are SOL.) Are you just against women in sports? Because you show a pretty huge lack of understanding.
