16:29 posting. I live in the burbs and most that put in home theaters want them out! Teens would rather a large room with a couple of sofas , a pool table etc. We saw houses in DC that could have had a 20x20 home theatre room.

For all you know OP is a major film buff. S/he didn't ask for advice on whether to build a home theater room, for gods sake. Why does everyone here always feel the need to second guess OPs and offer unsolicited advice (particularly if the question in any way suggests that the OP has $$)?

DC resident here. There are some huge houses with home theaters - among other extraneous rooms - in McLean, Great Falls and Potomac. And those are just house that I have actually been in.

The U actually stands for ugly.

Leather sectional with reclining ends and cup holders. Versatile, comfortable and wipe clean. Love it!

We have a sectional plus 2 pottery barn kids chairs in front of the sectional. It works great for us.

Hi OP. We don't have a theatre per se, but we have a large finished basement with a big-screen TV in the corner. We have this small sectional with two chairs comfy chairs all situated in front of the TV.

It's typically DH and me watching movies late at night and it is perfect for the two of us - he can lie down on one side, and me on the other and see the TV just fine. When we have friends over to watch something, there's plenty of space, and we have a big fluffy carpet in front of the sectional so kids can pile in by the dozen when friends and cousins are over.

I think it's more homey than theatre seats.

Just out of curiousity OP, where (generally) do you live? You do realize that the U in DCUM is for urban, which implies relatively smaller homes, which implies relatively fewer people with home theaters large enough to consider tiered seating?

Don't do the tiered seating. Don't do the chairs. Just get a 50-60 inch TV and 2 matching sofas, 3 ottomans, and a big chair.

We have tiered leather seating that recline all the way back. Also, the armrests come up so a couple can snuggle. We LOVE it!

They are admittedly not the prettiest, but we used Home Reserve for our basement/media room couch because of the absurdly narrow room entrance. [I assume you don't have this problem; just explaining for background.] But, I really like that you can choose from many fabrics and add on more pieces. We have a three-piece couch currently, but I'm planning to add a couple more pieces and make it L-shaped.

Maybe there is a more upscale/prettier version?
