same - my grandfather went by Jack (it was his middle name....not another name like John or James and he went by Jack, his middle name was Jack and he went by that). I'm not bothered if people don't like it, since he was an amazing man and if we have a boy, he'll hear a lot about him.

I thought this morning they were saying the Bush-Hager baby was "Nila". Not Mila. I don't really understand it in terms of blending both names - where's the "i" in Margaret? I also don't understand naming people after living relatives. But I am happy for them - she seemed like a very down to earth pregnant woman facing her own fears and issues whenever she talked about it on TV, and I could identify with that...even if I think her dad is a POS!

OP here. Wow, only in DC would this become a partisan issue!? Although I am no fan of either George Bush, I would have asked the same question if my best friend had chosen this name. This reminds me of that thread on preppy names. There were so many misconceptions. I've know lots of blue blooded WASPy DAR mayflower families with money as old as time. I've never met a "Preston" in my life. I do know a girl with the name Margaret (or something like that, named after a grandmother) and she goes by Emily. A completely different name that I assumed one of her parents always wanted to name their daughter but they had to stick with tradition. It was always a little confusing at the beginning of the school year when new teachers would call roll.

I think Bush II was one of the worst things to happen the US, and I still think Margaret Laura is a beautiful name and "Mila" is adorable. Who cares if it's not a usual nickname? It's darling.

My guess is that Jenna hates both names (Margaret and Laura) but could not cave into this family "tradition," such as it is, and so she came up with a nickname that she liked.
