If you stay in Arlington you will do yourself a favor if you live west of Exit 71. Yes, that means "beyond Ballston", with all the attendant dragons.

Or is a commute somehow not a commute if you live in the DCUM Dream Area?

Of COURSE there are walking areas of Vienna. It's a cute little town. That might actually be your best in between part.
