OP, it sounds like you have bronchitis...which doesn't respond to antibiotics.
Wrong. Antibiotics are given for bronchitis to reduce the chance of a secondary infection.

Huh? Sounds to me like the OP was upset she didn't get an antibiotic. If her strep test was negative, why on earth would she expect to be given antibiotics? Seems like they did exactly what any good doctor would do.
Pavlov's Dog. We've been conditioned to get an Rx when we go to the doctor. Think about it -- when was the last time you left a doctor without an Rx?
