Is this the school that Olivia Pope attended on Scandal?

I am a member of the parish as well as a DC resident. And there is a wonderful sense of community at the school - the teachers know all the student's names - not just the kids in their grade. It is a wonderful environment with very active parents.

I've heard that this is largely a "commuter" school - i.e., most school families are not parishioners and many don't live in DC. Is this true? If so, how does this affect school community since parochial schools are typically organized and focused on, well, the parish community?

How does convenience make up for lack of outdoor space? Outdoor time is an important part of elementary-school life.

There are lots of troubling pieces on this thread that I'd like to cover.

First, a 10/4/13 post stated the user was not impressed by the school based on a 2010. I suggest readers focus on the more recent feedback from a user dated 10/10/13 that indicated a recent visit didn't substantiate concerns about the facility.

Second, a post on 10/10/13 makes some serious allegations about the principal. As a parent of a current St. Ann's Academy student, I can assure you that (a) the principal is not "terrible", (b) I know nothing about any bribe or blackmail, and (c) I completely trust him with my child's safety and education. If the individual who posted that has credible information, he or she should expand on that post.

Third, I agree that the outdoor space is small. But the convenience of the school's location makes up for that. It is easy to drop your child off and then hop on the Red Line into work.

So for anyone who hasn't been turned off by people's outdated impressions or unsubstantiated allegations, I suggest you visit the school, take a tour, and meet the principal yourself. The school's phone number is 202 363-4460. You don't need to wait for an open house, they'd be happy to show you the school anytime.

Whats the issue with the principal?

Were the windows all covered over? Have they improved the outdoor space?

If only the terrible current principal weren't being maintained there because of a bribe / potential blackmail... Wouldn't entrust my kids to him.

I was at St. Ann's Academy in Tenleytown recently and I have to say most of what's mentioned here regarding the school turned out not to be true. The facilities are clean and bright. The classrooms were well organized and the kids were engaged. Wow. When I asked about the academic programs and the extracurriculars the teacher's had positive things to say about the school and what it offers. It's a small school in a great location in Tenleytown and the tuition if affordable. I've put in at the top of my list.

I would have to say Tenley since that is specifically St. Ann's Academy, not School. I could see saying "School" generically but OP specifically says "Academy" (which Tenley is but Arlington is not)

Has anyone even estsblished WHCIH ST ANN'S is being discussed?

The older grades were upstairs, but again in rooms with thick drapes covering the windows and no natural light. Yuck. I read somewhere there were renovations planned - is this true? I know the "environment" isn't everything, but it just seemed dreary,

Just a FYI, St. Anselm's starts at 6th and not at 5th grade.
