Another vote for the Dyson Animal, although I've never tried one of Dyson's stick vacuums.

Have you heard about Miele s5 capricorn? Its pretty much the best vacuum for hardwood floor and pets. It is not specific vacuum for pet hair but it has additional brushes that do this job.

I love my Hoover Linux. It's cordless and has a rechargeable battery. So easy to turn it on and go. It does great with cat hair on wood floors and kitty litter, and has a carpet setting. It won't deep clean, but great for quick pickups. About $150.

I've used that thing and it is USELESS for anything but the lightest dirt. It will not stand up to animal hair.

OP, yes, the Shark you found on Costco's site will do nicely.

I have this one - http://www.target.com/p/shark-navigator-never-loses-suction-upright-vacuum/-/A-11241870?ref=tgt_adv_XSG10001&AFID=Google_PLA_df&LNM=%7C11241870&CPNG=Appliances&kpid=11241870&LID=PA&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=11241870.

Amazing suction and it is very, very light and versatile for cleaning all kinds of surfaces.

Dyson animal vacuum. We only have hardwood floors and a lab that sheds like crazy - the Dyson is great. You can also get an attachment with a brush for your pet if your so inclined. We haven't done that yet but might.

Ok, so which vac does the job and does not weigh ten tons?

I LOVE my Dyson Animal- has a bare floor setting that turns off the roller brush so that it just sucks (use this on my Oriental rug too). Good attachments too, including one that makes the vac work like a canister and can get into small spaces. We clean the HEPA filter monthly and no allergy issues. 3 dogs- 2 big hairy shedders and one teeny furball who tracks in yard debris.

Read some product reviews on line. If allergies are an issue, get the better vac so dander doesn't go flying out the other end of the vacuum. Otherwise maybe it doesn't matter.

The version from Costco has a hardwood attachment (wider intake with little wheels to keep it off the floor by like 1/4 inch).

that sounds like the vac I need. I have two cats and wished they could be sucked up nicely (I would lnot ook in the canister for proof though) .

I wonder if somebody has suggestions for an inexpensive vac that could also suck up two kids and an annoying husband (I keep finding him on my sofa and he tends to stick to it no matter how much I try to vacuum him away)
