Well obviously whether God chooses or if the baby chooses does it matter? No one knows. So how is she not bright for wanting to believe that I was a gift from God to her?

I am Catholic and am not familiar with this wording at ALL! I have never gotten a birth announcement with it, either. Yikes! If I did, I would find it very, very odd!! If anything, maybe, if pressed, we'd believe that God chose the family for the baby, but the BABY choosing? What? Umm, no. Not even getting into the theological reasoning behind that, how, a mortal, would have the power, to CHOOSE, a family??????????

My mother used to say that children choose their parents and siblings. I always believed it on some level and when I was suffering from infertility it really burned. A close friend got pregnant and gave her daughter the name I always wanted to use and I felt like that child chose her over me. Weird and I don't know where my Mom got this idea because we're Lutheran and this certainly isn't a Lutheran teaching. Now that I'm pregnant I don't know what I believe. If having children is all in God's hands why would abusive people and drug addicts have children while some wonderful stable people can't. Doesn't make any sense. Being religious made my fertility struggles a nightmare because I thought about these things all the time, still do actually.

Since AAs had asked to be born that way to learn to overcome more obstacles in life, then it was perfectly OK to discriminate against them).

FWIW, this is definitely not a Christian perspective. I agree with the poster who described it as "homespun" (overdone) parenting.
